Do you know a traditional village in West Java ? Well, everybody knows. The traditional village in West java is Kampung Naga (Dragon Village). Kampung Naga is located in Neglasari village, Salawu subdistrict, Tasikmalaya regency, West Java. The village with the are of 4 hectares in about 26 km from Garut or 30 km from Tasikmalaya.
People call Kampung Naga a traditional village because the people still hold the traditions and customs fro centuries. You don not find the trace of modern life. The tradition forbids the modern instruments enter the village. There is not radio or television. You cannot even find electricity here.

Another uniqueness of the village is the house. The shape of the house looks the same. Every house is stage-shape. Both the house and the floor are made of bamboo and wood. They face to the north and the south. People are not allowed to paint the houses.
Besides, people of Dragon Village are not allowe to hold an art show. The tradition forbids the art shows. Accordiningly, you will never watch a trditional show such as puppet show, pencak silat, or other musical shows in the village. What about the watching art show ? People are permitted to watch the shows outside the village.

Beyond its uniqueness, people are best known for their hospitally. They always welcome the guest politely and warmly. Hospitality is part of the custom. All of the people are Moslem, but they still strongly hold the faith according to their customs and their ancestor's thoughts.





Candirejo Tourism Village


(Candirejo Tourism Village) Candirejo is a tourism village in Central Java. It is located about 3 km southeast of Borobudur Temple, Magelang. The three closest cities to Candirejo are Yogyakarta, Solo, and Semarang. The name 'candirejo' derives from Javanese language; 'candi' means temple and stone and 'rejo' means fertile. The land of Candirejo village is full of stone, but remains fertile.
Candirejo has natural beauty. The village with the area of 365 hectares consist of rice field (60%), rainforest (20%), and the shelter & the house (20%). Visitors may enjoy the fresh air, the rain forest, and green rice field, and songs of birds. The village is free of air polution and flood, and this has been the main interest of the people.

The villagers always welcome the visitors warmly. Hospitality has been the characteristic of the people in the village. Visitors can also enperience and participate beds, benches and bookshelves of bamboo, and bags or mats of pandanus leaves. Visitors may buy then as souvenirs.
Candirejo village still maintains some traditions and traditional art performances. Nyadran is a yerly ritual to welcome the fasting month. The procession to send offerings is usually done is Mountain Mijil. Jathilan is a traditional dance that plays a significant role in the history of Candirejo. This dance describes the war of Prince Diponegoro during the time of the Dutch colonialism in 1825.
